Romance and camping aren’t a match made in heaven. It’s not the same as us saying ‘the ultimate guide to a romantic weekend in a 5* hotel.’ The idea of lukewarm community showers on an average camping site with a tent that has a hole in it and a mattress that deflates throughout the night doesn’t scream romance.
But, come on, we’re in 2025 (almost 2026). The possibilities of camping are so much more than spending a night under the stars, questioning every decision you’ve ever made in life because you’re freezing cold. We’re in an era of glamping and motorhoming, and that’s exactly how we think you should be spending a romantic weekend ‘camping’… by doing anything but camping.
Read on to find out more.
Luxury Motorhomes That Put a Hotel on Wheels
Not for us to be biassed, but if you’re going to plan a glamping/camping style trip, nothing is going to be better than a luxury motorhome. They’re the camping answer to a 5* hotel on wheels.
Not to be confused with a caravan, that’s more like a 3* hotel on wheels, a luxury motorhome really is, as the name suggests, like a home. You have all the amenities and luxuries you can ask for under your roof.
Standard motorhomes should come with:
- A comfy bed (most of them are double)
- A fully functioning kitchen
- A fully functioning toilet
- A warm shower with good water pressure
- A living area with a smart TV
- Wi-Fi or 5G internet
- Air conditioning and heating
You’re not cold, and you’re not sleeping on a deflating mattress.
Comfort Over Convenience
Unless your idea of romance really is a Bear Grylls-style adventure (each to their own), then we would always advise going for comfort over convenience if you’re going for a romantic weekend away. Take everything you need that will make it feel like home.
Some of the items we recommend packing include:
- Fluffy socks (it’s winter)
- Cosy pyjamas
- Blankets
- Walking boots (we hope you’ll be exploring)
- Snacks (the most essential)
- Drinks you like (we hope a romantic bottle of wine)
- A candle, if you want to be extra romantic
Don’t pack light and regret it.
Picking The Perfect Location
The destination is almost as important as the accommodation. There are so many options that it’s difficult to get it wrong.
Naturally, our opinion is that you should go to Scotland. There’s no better place in the UK for a romantic break than here. And without a doubt, one of the best ways to explore Scotland is with Scottish motorhomes – they give you the freedom to go anywhere you want to go. There are endless lochs, mountains, lakes, and cities to explore, and you can definitely see a lot in one weekend.
But the true romance of Scotland appears when the night falls. If you can park your motorhome away from the city, in the foot of the mountains and spend the night under a clear sky with the stars above you, there’s nothing quite like it. You have to experience the magic of it for yourself.
If you do pick Scotland as your destination, we’d recommend staying in (or at least spending an hour in):
- Edinburgh (spend at least an hour there)
- The Highlands (perfect for spending the night)
- The Isle of Skye
- Glencoe
- Cairngorms
A Romantic Night In For Two
This is where the magic really happens. Not in a tent that sounds like it might blow away at any moment. Inside your warm, cosy motorhome with the doors locked, heaters on, and the world outside paused.
We’d recommend cooking together. Nothing fancy; pasta or steak. Something that makes the space smell incredible. Open that romantic bottle of wine you so carefully packed.
Wrap yourselves in blankets and sit on the bed or the sofa to watch a film you’ve both seen a hundred times. Or don’t watch anything at all. You could take UNO and hope you don’t end the relationship, or go for a walk under the stars.
If you’re parked somewhere remote, turn the lights off for a moment and look out of the window. With the stars overhead and pure stillness, it’s a magical experience. You have no traffic, no emails, and no distractions.
This is the kind of night that hotels try to sell.
Our guide to the ultimate camping weekend means not camping at all. Or, as we said, if that’s your thing that you both love to do, then that’s great. But for us, the idea of a romantic camping weekend is making it a bit more luxurious.
