OK, so we probably wouldn’t park it in the middle of the picture above, but somewhere close to that is the goal.
There are so many incredibly mesmerising locations to park your Scottish motorhome—hiring a motorhome in Scotland is truly a dream come true. The rolling hills, the historic cities, the dramatic coastlines: what’s not to love?
Still, it’s not all stop-you-in-your-tracks stunning views. You don’t want to be parked at Harthill services just off the M8 motorway (although that actually is one of the better ones).
Read on for our top recommendations of the best places to park your motorhome in Scotland.
Sango Sands Oasis
Sango Sands Oasis is a stunning cliffside location. And, if you’re lucky, you might also catch a glimpse of the aurora lights. If you’re not looking up, you can look out and across the breathtaking views of the North Atlantic Ocean and golden beaches.
Facilities include electric hook-ups and water points and well-maintained and clean showers and toilet blocks. Other amenities include a small laundry area and cutlery washing facilities for long-stay visitors. A local pub and restaurant offer exquisite local dishes and refreshments.
The site is perfect for hikers, beachcombers, or those who want to visit Smoo Cave, which is only a mile away and is a hauntingly beautiful sea cave. You’ve also got the zip wire running across the beautiful Ceannabeinne Beach.
This campsite is only open from May until the end of September. Pitching prices vary and the campsite requires 48 hours notice if you need a plug-in pitch.
Loch Ness Shores Camping and Caravanning Club Site
You can guess it – this campsite is located on the Loch Ness shores.
Sitting on the south side of Loch Ness, near the village of Foyers, we’d never say this isn’t a great location to park a motorhome, and if we did, we’d need you to send us for hospital treatment.
Most of the pitches at the campsite are well spaced and offer stunning views of the loch itself. There are multiple options for pitching, including Hardstanding Pitch (Super Service), which all vary in price. Most pitches are hard standing.
There’s an area for reception and small shops where visitors can buy local snacks and essentials. The entire site is cleanliness-orientated, so the toilet and shower facilities are also well-kept and modern. You’ve also got specific rooms where outdoor gear can be dried after a long day of exploring.
With ample walking trails nearby, the loch itself to explore, and the Falls of Foyer on your doorstep, it’s the perfect location. You can also enjoy paddleboarding, boating, kayaking, and fishing on the lake. If water isn’t your thing, the nearby Affric Kintail Way and South Loch Ness Trail are splendid walking and cycling routes.
Dunnet Bay Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite
What a place!
The Dunnet Bay Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is the dreamy pitch you’re looking for if you want a seaside escape. The pitch is at Dunnet Bay (believe it or not), and has beautifully tranquil seaside views of the bay to Dunnet Head, the northernmost point of the British mainland. We’d recommend going for a hike up Dunnets Head for stunning views of Pentland Firth to Orkney.
The site consists of a very modern dishwashing area and even heated shower blocks. You can also use the laundry facility and other excellent amenities if you need to.
The premier attraction is the beach itself, which is ideal for long walks and or listening to the rolling waves.
Locals who enjoy wildlife will have a great time too, as they will have the chance to spot seals, seabirds, and even the rare dolphin.
Milarrochy Bay Camping and Caravanning Club Site
Sitting on the banks of Loch Lomond, we bring to you our final campsite location. And, what can we say, you can’t go wrong when a campsite is next to Loch Lomond or the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. They’re some of the most scenic places in Scotland.
The campsite offers grass pitches and hard-standing options, all with electric hook-ups, some even with a mesmerising view of the loch.
The campsite does cover all basic amenities and even goes further by providing heated shower blocks, chemical disposal points, a drying room for wet gear, etc. There is also a specific area for dishwashing, assisting staff, and Wi-Fi for people who need to stay connected.
The West Highland Way footpath runs alongside the campsite. The loch is perfect for kayaking and paddleboarding or just lounging with a great book. Balmaha, a nearby village, has a small shop and lovely pubs for a post-adventure meal or a pint.
So, where do you want to park your motorhome first? With these locations, your trip is guaranteed to be unforgettable.
