Everything You Need to Know About The Best Christmas Events in Scotland

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,

eveeeerywhere you go ♫♪♪‘ – Michaell Bublé.

That’s right, folks: it’s official. Michael Bublé and Mariah Carey are defrosting, ready to earn their annual millions from the Christmas songs we can’t stop playing. And with parts of England and Scotland experiencing their first snowfall of 2024 over the last few years, now is the perfect time to think about all the magical Christmas events you can find in Scotland.

Scotland has to be in one of the top three most Christmassy places in the UK! So much so that we’d recommend taking one of our Scottish motorhomes so you can see them all!

To ensure you don’t miss out on any fun, we’ve got a list of the best Christmas events in Scotland and everything you need to know about them.

Glasgow Winterfest

Winterfest in Glasgow is up there with some of the best (obviously, that’s why it has made it onto our list).

Located at George Square and St. Enoch Square, you’re guaranteed festive fun the minute you lay eyes on it. Glasgow Winterfest is bustling with activity and always packed from November 9th, 2024 to January 5th, 2025, trademarking Glasgow as the centre of Scottish Christmas.

Think of every Christmas stall selling hot chocolate, mulled wine, and pints of beer larger than your head! There is a grill and even pudding wraps and churros present. And, of course, the classic German sausage. It’s the perfect way to start gaining that inevitable and dreaded Christmas weight.

As for the rides, George Square has the famous Big Wheel, the 80m Drop Tower and Booster Maxx. Or, if you’re travelling with young kids, Santa’s Train and a Kids Carousel are there. Or there’s the Star Flyer and the Grinch Train! The ice skating rink is open from 11 am to 10 pm daily, costing £15 at maximum and £10 minimum.

You’ll also find stalls selling hand-knitted winter hats, gloves, and Christmas decorations.

Christmas at the Botanics

Christmas at the Botanics blends in beautifully with the festive spirit.

The light exhibit inside the Royal Botanic Garden is truly magical. There are multiple light displays, including floating candles and sea robins. You have to see it in person to experience how spectacular it is. It’s the perfect day out for families or couples!

And the best part of this experience is how stress-free it is. There’s a time limit on entries, so you don’t feel crowded or rushed. You have all the time to enjoy peacefully walking around the grounds.

Family packages are discounted, and adult tickets start at £12. But remember to book tickets now because the demand is high, and some of the time slots have already sold out.

While you’re there, make sure to try some of the various delicious food treats available!

Castle of Light

On select nights between November 22nd and January 4th, the gorgeously built Edinburgh Castle transforms into a Castle of Light. Edinburgh Castle has always been a massive tourist attraction, but those looking at the castle in a completely different light (pun intended!) are in for a treat.

With mesmerising projectors placed at strategic locations throughout the castle, the lights tell a story of the history of the castle with magical light displays. You’ll also see some magical and mythical creatures thrown in along the way. The event is intended for all family members with features like Rex the Lion, who resides in the Great Hall and is adored by the children.

Adult tickets are £22 and children £12. You can also buy family discount tickets.

Blair Drummond Safari Park’s Christmas Spectacular

Customers wanting the excitement of wildlife and Christmas can visit the Blair Drummond Safari Park between the 30th November and 23rd December 2024.

The park is decorated to look magical and full of life. Visitors can enjoy Santa’s Fly-by, a train trip across the park, and illuminations of dinosaurs in the dinosaur forest. We think you’ll also love the outdoor Christmas performance of the children’s show called The Little Reindeer’s Search for a Song filled with stories, puppets, and singing.

You must buy tickets online before you go. Adult tickets are £15 and children £10 during the week with weekend tickets slightly more expensive.

The park will remain closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and offer extended hours from December 20th through December 23rd.

Don’t forget to look at the country’s largest Christmas tree and outdoor fire pits for toasted marshmallows!

Scotland has everything. You won’t regret picking Scotland as your Christmas getaway. It’s perfect for families, couples, friends, solo travellers – anyone!
